The fountain "The Triumph of Neptune and Amphitrite Stilling the Waves" or "Neptune’s Triumph" for short, was once a part of Potsdam’s City Castle. In the 250 years of its history, it was built, rebuilt, demolished, buried, forgotten, accidentally unearthed and finally restored. You can read all about it at our fountain waymark.
The picture to the left was taken in the1930, a few years before the fountain was destroyed in World War II and demolished in the cold war aftermath. The picture on the right was taken in 2007 during our visit in Potsdam.
Works to restore it started in 2000, and so far, two of the original ten sculptures have been put in place again. A modern art work outlines the shape of the lost parts.
The historic picture was found on a sign describing the fountain.
