The downstream section of the bridge, dating back to 1833, is an attractive 5-span masonry arch structure. However, the upstream extension,
added in 1922 using a reinforced concrete deck slab, supported with steel girders is less appealing.
Open parapets are used to allow views of the river and attractive floodlighting is also used.
