Arnside is a small village on the side of the Kent Estuary, at the top of Morecambe Bay. The pier is frequently used for fishing and is a pleasant place to watch the visitors to the village wandering along the Prom.

When the railway viaduct across the estuary was built it cut off the port of Milnthorpe so the railway company agreed to build a new pier at Arnside.

The amount of sea traffic was decreasing anyway as trade moved to the railways and more accessible ports. In 1934 the end section was destroyed in a storm and then rebuilt. The Parish Council bought the pier in 1964. Another storm wrecked the causeway part in 1983.

The pier was rebuilt in 1984 at a cost of £25,000. Since then it has been a pleasant addition to the village for a short wander. Much used for fishing when the tide comes in. The main catch is flounder.
