St.Edward's church which is the oldest surviving building in the parish of Shaugh Prior was built in stages mostly between the 14th and 16th century. The church is named after King Edward who was born in 961 and was crowned King of England in 975 at the tender age of 14 years. The original church was built in the 12th century. However, this must have been demolished at some point as the current church is a 15th century granite building. The church has a 15th century tower.
In the church there is a remarkable 15th century font cover that was rescued from a storage shed in the 1870s and restored.
