Cup-marked stones are thought to be prehistoric in origin, although their purpose is unknown. This example forms part of a conifer plantation boundary wall on Dartmoor.

The stone has about a dozen cup-marks, athough those at the bottom are larger and more distinct.What appears to be the number 81 in black paint is probably the number 18, given the direction of the dribbles.
