Tucked away in the woods, midway between Round Pond and Bristol Mills, is a small stone building... a living reminder of Bristol's past. From 1835 until 1899, it served as a one room schoolhouse. This was in the days before school busses and autombiles; the majority of students walked to and from school each day. As a result, during the 19th Century, there were 20 such schools scattered throughout town.
Today, on summer Sunday and Wednesday afternoons, volunteer docents dress in period costume and open the schoolhouse for tours. Inside, visitors find actual textbooks used by 19th century students. If you'd like, you can attend a “class” given by a docent, and record your answers on your personal slate. Don't forget to bring an apple for the teacher.
