This scale model of the Cambodian settlement was commissioned by King Rama IV to allow the people of Siam to see the wonders of the land held under the king's dominion. Much of early Thai architecture is greatly influenced by Khmer style. And even though the next Thai ruler, Rama V was forced to cede Cambodia to France to maintain Siamese independence, the model remains on the grounds of the Grand Palace.
