The oldest Russian-Orthodox church on German soil was built in 1829 and has been used continuously ever since. The church is the center of Alexandrowka, a settlement of thirteen wooden houses in Russian style in Potsdam, which were built between 1826 and 1827 on special wish of the former Prussian king, Friedrich Wilhelm III. Originally the colony was the home of the Russian singers of the First Prussian Regiment of the Guards.

The building was originally designed by Wassily Petrowitsch Stassow, an architect from St. Petersburg, Russia, and later enhanced by the famous German architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel.

The church still holds services every sunday at noon and out of respect for worshipers, we didn’t take any pictures inside.
