Penn National Race Course - a fixture in the area for years - branched out into the casino industry during the 1990's, establishing casinos in several areas in the US, while waiting for casinos to eventually open in PA. When this occured, Penn National tore down its old facilities, rebuilding the grandstand from the ground up, and adding the new Hollywod Casino.
The Hollywood Casino opened on February 12, 2008, and boasts 2020 slots...about half of which are low-denomination - and quite busy! There are a number of virtual blackjack tables, where gamers sit at a table and are dealt cards by a virtual dealer.
The 365,000 square foot facility cost $310 million to build & includes 6,500 square feet of convention/meeting space. Six restaurants are currently located on site, with more to come. The casino also features nightly entertainment.
