This benchmark has been cut into the front of this milestone which is one mile from Callington. The milestone would have been placed alongside the Callington to Tavistock turnpike road in the mid 18th century. This benchmark is number 41 on the Tavistock to Liskeard line of the First Geodetic Levelling and dates from 1849. It was originally 602.355 ft above sea level at Liverpool.
This milestone, along with another milestone in the nearby village of St Mellion, has recently been repainted.
