This milestone would have been placed in position by the Callington Turnpike Trust. The road we now know as the A390 running from St Ive to Gunnislake was constructed and maintained by the trust. The turnpike trust and its tolls were abolished in the Callington area in 1874.
I understand this milestone, along with the one in St Mellion, have recently been painted by CORMAC.
