St Mary's is a lovely church dating back to the 12th century. In the churchyard is this sundial on a pedestal. A Civic Society plaque gives details of its history.
It was made specifically for Kirkby Lonsdale by Cary of London and installed in 1994. It replaced an 18th century sundial that is on display in the church.
As well as the hours it has the minutes inscribed. While we were there the sun was shining and it appeared to be quite accurate.
