Now, here is something rare and unusual: At the northern end of the Chichuahuan Desert lies a mountain-ringed valley, the Tularosa Basin.

Rising from the heart of this basin is one of the world’s great natural wonders – the glistening white sands of New Mexico.
White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this gypsum dune field. It is not only a great place to watch unique plants and animals but also a perfect place to test-drive your snow sledge in the heat of the summer.

Obviously, the kids have fun: Snow sledding … … and snow angels.

Be prepared to "feel cold" while you are there. It really looks like snow and even the summer heat, your mind might fool you and let you believe you experience a cold winter day.
It looks like snow … … they plow it like snow … … and our car blends in perfectly.

Of course, we had to take a couple of pictures of our travel mascot and namesake, "Bernd das Brot".
