From Mississippi - A
Guide to the Magnolia State - Tour 3 - Clarksdale section:
The CARNEGIE
PUBLIC LIBRARY, SE. corner Delta Ave. and First St., a red brick English Tudor
type building, was completed in 1914 at a cost of $25,000, but within recent
years additions have more than doubled its value. With 49,250 volumes, the
largest public library col lection in the State, and an annual book circulation
of 167,982, it is one of the outstanding libraries in Mississippi.
The library was further expanded in 1970. At that time the original
plan was to demolish the earlier Carnegie fund library, however due to a
shortage of funds the original building was retained. The building
continues to serve as part of the library.
