Several areas of Kendal high street have been redeveloped over the last ten or so years - Wainwright's Yard, Blackhall Yard and Elephant Yard. Elephant Yard has a series of shops and other retail outlets along it, and also acts as a through route to Library Road.
When developing the plans, the designers couldn't resist the elephant connection and, as well as the name, there's a logo or two about the place.
Perhaps not surprisingly the theme has been followed to the roof where an adult and baby elephant (tail in trunk) are walking along the weather vane arrow.
You have to be in one of a few spots to be able to see the vane as it is a bit hidden with various roof levels and the narrow streets. The co-ordinates above are one such spot in Library Road. At the other end, upstairs in Waterstones would be a good vantage point!
