I frequently take my dog here; in fact every Monday evening during daylight savings we bring a bottle of wine and sometimes a picnic dinner to have while our dog plays.
There is a flat field and beach adjacent to the car park. Then a looped footpath goes around the north side of the bay. On the point at the north side of the bay there is another open area for dogs to run in and a well placed bench for humans to rest and take in the spectacular views. So if all you'd like to do is let your dog run while you sit, you can just let it go in the first area. But if you'd like a walk as well, there's the loop track!
Only warning with the beach is this is a shallow bay and low tide can be a VERY SMELLY dog magnet. That's why Monday evening is my dog's bath night.
Bikes are not allowed in this area; dogs must be under effective control. The public loos are outside the off-lead designated area at the south side of the bay, past The Boathouse at Cornelian Bay restaurant; dogs are allowed in this area on lead. The restaurant has a kiosk at the back where you can get a snack, ice cream, or decent coffee to enjoy while your canine has a run.
Level of Enclosure: Not Worth Mentioning
Description of Enclosure: There isn't an enclosure per se at this dog off lead area. However the closest road is not a main road, with lots of speed humps, and there is a fenced field on the other side of that road and the closest main road. The other sides of the off lead area are bounded by a cemetary and the Derwent River.
