An interesting well preserved milestone alongside the Liskeard Turnpike.

This milestone was placed by the Liskeard Turnpike Trust alongside the road from Liskeard to St Ive at Butterdon mill. The road is now the A390 which runs between Callington and Liskeard. The road was improved in the late 18th century as was the section from St Ive to Callington. This road must have been considerably improved by 1796 for a traveller, a Mr William Marshal" to comment "The roads are of stone and in parts extremely well kept, the gates few and the tolls moderate"
