Swinside stone circle is Neolithic Bronze age 3300BC.
The stone circle is set in splendid isolation and is about one mile from the nearest parking place, for this reason it's visitor numbers are far less than the better known Castlerigg stone circle .
The circle is 93 feet in diameter, and the tallest stone is 7 foot 6 inches high. The stones are Porphyritic slate from the adjacent fells, the heaviest weighing about 5 tons.
