Kendal fire station is manned by both full-time and retained firefighters. It is seen as comparatively quiet with about 500 call-outs a year.
"Every Cumbrian fire station's first fire appliance now carries a vast array of modern equipment which is designed to provide an effective first response to any emergency. The second appliance provides extra firefighters if the need arises.
A major investment in state of the art heavy rescue equipment in 2003 means that every station's first fire appliance now carries heavy rescue cutting tools and high pressure lifting bags which historically had been confined to just a handful of specialist appliances. This means firefighters are now responding quicker than ever before to road accidents around the county." Cumbria County Council
Kendal's High Volume Pump (HVP) has been used very successfully at the major fire at the Buncefield Oil Depot near Hemel Hempstead, and in the protection of a power station in Gloucestershire.
