[EN] In 1886, having returned from exile in England, the Duke of Aumale undertook the restoration of his royal domain at Chantilly, inheritance of the Condé family. He ordered the statue from the artist Dubois as an hommage to Constable Anne of Montmorency. It was planned that the equestrian statue would stand on the terrace constructed by Bullant. Dubois spent five years researching the character of Constable Anne and sought to affirm the rough and wily characteristics of the famous military leader. Through his research, Dubois successively took on the role of historian, archeologist and naturalist.
When the monument was finally erected, Henri of Orléans was no longer at Chantilly. The republicans formed a united front against the rise of the monarchists in the elections of 1885. The prince left once again into exile.
