A memorial garden behind beech hedges along a busy street. Unlike the statue in the busy market place for WW1, this is a tucked away, almost hidden place; green and growing with life.

A small gate invites you in, under the tall, green, fir arch. Lifting the latch and walking through brings you into a green space away from the hustle of the cars on the street.

A path leads onwards across the space to a wooden structure which covers and displays a bronze plaque. Eight columns of names are remembered here "In honour of those from Kendal who gave their lives for their country."

Benches in the garden commemorate the Korean War, and other individuals, but also provide a place to sit and contemplate in this pleasant place. The world rushes by outside the hedges, but time slows down in here.

The land was given by Sam T Clark who lived in this road and founded Romney's Kendal Mint Cake. The road and the mint cake were named after the portrait painter George Romney who lived in Kendal for a while.
