Roa Island has toilets, a cafe, guest house, telephone box, and lifeboat station. A regular bus service runs to Roa from Barrow. A sailing club and workshop is also on the island and many boats are moored near the island in the summer. See: (

The deep water channel passes the end of the island allowing the passage of quite big cruise liners, Royal Navy ships and nuclear subs to reach Barrow docks. It's a tight turn between Roa and Piel Islands. There are several buoys and platforms marking the channel and acting as leading marks.
Beware the tides if you venture onto the sands/mud.
