The Highest Point in Duval County (Mount Cornelia) - Geographic High Points on Waymarking.com

Although Americasroof.com lists Indian Mound as the highest elevation in Duval County, Florida, that site was leveled several years ago to put in a Park-n-Ride lot, which leaves Mount Cornelia as the highest point in the County. Mount Cornelia may actually may have an even "higher" claim to fame. According to the Florida State Parks website: "Rising 65 feet above sea level, Mount Cornelia is reputed to be the highest point on the U.S. Atlantic coast south of North Carolina’s outer Banks."

According to a website about the Saturiwa Trail at Fort George Cultural State Park: "In 1736 General James Oglethorpe, founder of the Georgia colony, may have built his fort, known as Fort St. George, on Mt. Cornelia." The website further states: "During the late 1800s, Mt. Cornelia was a recreational focus for visitors to the Fort George Hotel. Tourists viewed the mouth of the St. Johns River from a large observation platform atop the dune. Later this spot was one of the golf course tees" for the Ribault Club.

There's a cache named We Did Say Fore! located at Mount Cornelia for any future visitors to this waymark.
