The Kent is one of the steepest rivers in the UK, rising on the slopes of High Street, descending through Kentmere before reaching the sea at Levens. Along the way it is fed by the rivers Sprint and Mint.

This location is where the Mint joins. To the south and east is a variety of industrial estates. To the NE is a large paper warehouse and the massive Lakeland distribution depot. In between is some undeveloped land and fields, and looking north gives a good view. The area is a favourite with dog walkers.

A large pool is just below the confluence and the change is speed of the water throws up a large bank of stones brought down from the hills. Ducks, swans, even cormorants can be seen, and it is a popular watering hole in the summer. Along the river you may see a kingfisher at times.

The river bank on the south side is accessible and footpaths lead down from the A6 alongside the Mint, or up stream out of town by the Kent. Easiest parking is at Morrisons supermarket, cross the A6 and find the footpath by the bridge.

Despite the nearby industry, it's a pleasant and often beautiful place.
