An old water supply reservoir for Kendal, now used primarily for fishing. Owned by United Utilities. East of Kendal on the old Sedbergh Road.

The reservoir was built in 1895 to serve the increasing demand for water from Kendal. These days the supply comes from Watchgate treatment works, tapping into the Thirlmere aqueduct system.
The reservoir may not have produced a lot of water since it is very high up on the drainage system and consequently has a very small catchment area - just the run off from the back of Benson Knott. Due to its redundancy as a water supply, the spillway is active a lot of the time and really part of the beck. The water cascades under 3 arches through the dam wall.
There is a small area for parking at the entrance drive to the nearby house. Dogs are not allowed at any time. Enjoy your visit.
