These potato caves were dug out soft porous rock which originated from decaying granite to store potatoes in the winter, they were never too far from farms. This one is near Leather Tor Farm, the farm was abandoned just over 100 years ago when the nearby reservoir was built. The cave goes back about 20ft and a person can just about stand up straight if they stood in the middle. For more detail see this website. (visit link)
