The collections held by the Barrow Museum Service relate to the history of the Barrow area from prehistoric times to the present day. The Dock Museum currently holds approximately 20,000 objects and more are being donated all the time.
Major displays include the ship building history of Vickers (now BAE Systems) and everything from liners to nuclear submarines. The location of the museum allows several levels down into the 'dry' dock itself, which is still very visible and adds to the experience.
Outside is the waterfront alongside Walney channel. There is a good playground and other exhibits in the grounds including an old lifeboat, anchors, and various parts of boats.
All in all an excellent place to go to explore the history of ship building in Barrow and other aspects of life in this area.
