The B4493, "Oxford Rd" road is now relatively quiet, as the bulk of Northbound traffic from Newbury travels up the A34. In times past it was the main road towards Oxford.

The milestone is outside the historic Donnington Hospital almshouses, founded in 1393. The present courtyard was built in 1602.
