An attractive vane just north of Kendal on the A6. Farmers in the Lakes often have black & white collies to work their flocks of sheep. This vane produces 'white' through a cut-out in the silhouette.

The vane is on an old building/gateway, which is part of an old cottage/farm. It is easily found on the main A6 road north of the town, opposite where Helm Lane joins. Be careful how you stop on this fast 'clearway'.

I think the design of the vane is excellent, with very precise details of grass and flowers, the clever way of getting white on the dog, and the pose and attitude of both farmer and dog. Nicely done.

This is a private house, so please ensure you do not disturb anyone when visiting.
