Westmorland General Hospital is on a greenfield site on the SE edge of town. It is a 250 bedded hospital providing elective surgical services, a minor injuries service, a satellite renal dialysis unit and a midwifery-led maternity unit in addition to acute medical care and access to Coronary Care facilities. In addition to the above, WGH is earmarked to become a treatment centre for elective in-patient surgery.
It's important to me as it's my local hospital and also where my daughter was born 12 years ago! We were at A&E this week with her injured ankle! (all ok!)
An on-going local campaign to keep a full range of services at Kendal as re-organisation plans seem to keep moving things down to either Barrow or Lancaster. The Coronary Care unit has a very good reputation but is threatened with closure.
You may see various Save our Hospitals / Westmorland General signs around the place.
