This building is an icon and unmistakable landmark on the cityscape of Dubai. It can be seen from almost anywhere in the city, and is a marvel of engineering.
Burj Dubai became the world's tallest high-rise building on July 24, 2007, and the world's tallest self-supporting structure on September 12, 2007. It will also be the first "world's tallest building" ever to have residential space.
When completed, the Burj Dubai will hold all four of the officially recognised records for tallest buildings.
A number of stores have already opened their doors at the base of the Burj Dubai, and it is worth a trip to stand at the base and look up. It is amazing.
