Another British Columbia building by architect Francis Rattenbury, who designed the Parliment Buildings and the Empress hotel in Victoria.
One of 4 courthouses he designed through out BC, Nanaimo's was built using sandstone quarried from Newcastle Island which is now a Provincial Park located in Nanaimo's harbour.. No pictures of the inside as the door states, No Cameras!
Both Provincial and Supreme Courts preside over cases at this court house.
