Erected in honour of Charles de Brouckère (1795-1860), major from 1848 to 1860, inaugurated 12 october 1866. Beyaert was the architect and Fiers the authors of the main sculptures.

Due to the works for the international exhibition of 1958, the monument was displaced to the present place, near the Heysel stadium.
