Smiley's is an "Old School" Wood Pit Cooked BBQ Restaurant, located in Lexington, NC. The building has been in constant use as a BBQ Stand since the early 1950's. Current owners Steve & Tena Yountz bought the business and opened under the name Smiley's in 2002. While the smell of fresh pit cooked BBQ flows for blocks around, it seams to draw you toward the place. It's a little slice of heaven.
The postcard was released on Oct.27th, 2007, during the 24th annual Lexington, BBG Festival. I personally took the original postcard photo, and had them made. The photo was actually taken across the street in a Biscutville parking lot/sidewalk. It was the best angle to capture the building. I had to take the photo while they were closed. Because if you took the photo while they were open. All you would see are work trucks, and cars everywhere. So nothing of the building but the roof would be visible. That is a sure fire tell on how good a BBQ place is in the very competitive Lexington NC (BBQ Capital) market. I made this postcard and the other Lexington, NC BBQ items featured at www.pigpenny.com to showcase my hometown because I was tired of not seeing any souviners from here.
The photos were all taken with a Kodak 2712 IS, on a monopod.
