The Cedar Creek Foundation Battle Reenactment is an annual reenactment that takes place every year around the third weekend in October.
The Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park has been signed into law by President Bush thus making Cedar Creek the only National Park in the U.S. in which reenactments will be permitted. The Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation will continue to host the reenactment as we have in the past. All proceeds from the reenactment benefit battlefield interpretation and preservation.

This of course is an American Civil War reenactment depicting the Battle for Cedar Creek within the Valley Campaign. The original battle occurring October 19, 1864, Confederate General Jubal A. Early clashed with engaged Union troops led by General’s Horatio G. Wright and then Philip H. Sheridan. Early withdrawn (Up the Valley) southwest into the Shenandoah Valley under pressure from Phil Sheridan’s army who were engaged and trying to destroy the economic base of the Valley, meant to deprive General Robert E. Lee’s Army of needed supplies. The Confederacy took a crushing defeat and the Union pushed on! General Sheridan also entered the battlefield and rallied his troops to victory!

The reenactment is one of the best reenactment sights in the world that continues to reenact on original ground. It is spectator friendly with vast areas and wide views of the actual battlefield. One of the premiere places to view a reenactment. Over 4000 reenactors attend this event annually. It is held in mid fall which can bring mild temperatures, but usually comfortable. Vast parking areas are available to the spectators including food vendors, civil war related vendors/sutlers, and portable bathroom facilities. Your tickets include all activities related to the reenactment. There is a small bus service available to take spectators to the different camps and locations. Depending on your choice, you can get a one day ticket vs an all weekend ticket. This includes your parking. Come in and visit the camps, that is what the reenacts are for. To help bring you back to past times and educated in a very important era of American History. I should know, I have been doing this reenactment for the last 20 years. It’s very much worth the ticket prices. Reenactors are also charged to participate. But the funding is used for a good cause. Costs can vary do economical changes but usually fall fall with in $15.00 a day. Check the Foundation web site for detailed info on pricing. Close to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., this is a must for any Civil War Buff or Enthusiast! Several Motel and Hotels are nearby, but they do fill up during this weekend. Participant Fees for reenactors varies from $7.00 to $30.00 for the weekend depending when units or participants get their registrations in. Sutlers areas are probably up in the $100 to $200 area. Spectator fees can also vary do to pre registration. Probably not more then $15.00 a day including your parking. Parking passes are given to put on your dash and special tags are given as your pass.
