Each store has over 60,000 pieces of artwork you can choose from or you can help them design your own (like I did). No one under 18 is allowed in the shop at all, let alone get a tattoo, so find somewhere for the kids to go while you get inked. I got my tattoo for my 34th birthday and it took me years to decide what kind of tattoo I wanted and where I wanted to get it (on my body and which shop). I asked around, did my research and checked out other people's tattoos. When it came down to it, it was an easy choice - Tattoo Charlies. My mom worried about how safe tattoos are but I never worried going to Tattoo Charlies. Their reputation is impeccable and it is a very clean, sterile establishment. You get your tattoos in private boothes and your friends (as long as they are over 18) can watch through the window if they want.

If you are in Louisville, you can stop by the Dixie Highway shop and visit Charlie's museum which opened in 1999, showcasing 30 years worth of art.
