The Strand is one of the Red properties on the UK (London) board. It is the equivalent of the US Kentucky Avenue.

The Strand has been a major route since Saxon times.
The name "Strand" means "shore" or "beach" and Wikipedia tells us that "Prior to the construction of the Thames Embankment in the 19th century the street ran
directly alongside the River Thames". The Strand connected the historic cities of London to the East and Westminster to the West.
A number of important buildings lie along the Strand. The Temple the historic home of the
legal profession, King's College, part of the University of London, St Mary Le
Strand baroque church.
It gave its name to a famous music hall song Let's all go down the Strand" (have a
banana!) popularised by Charlie Whittle, although it always makes me think of "Berlington Bertie from Bow" with the lines: "I walk down the Strand with my gloves on my hand/Then I walk down again with them off"
