From an online guide: "General Daniel Bissell was a military leader. When he was only 12 years old, he was a fifer with Connecticut's troops in the Revolutionary War. In 1788 he enlisted with the U.S. Army, commencing a military career that saw service along the frontier from New Orleans to Canada. As Captain Bissell, he came to Missouri in 1804 where he became a close friend of Daniel Boone.”
