The Sumper Valley Railroad reached the Whitney valley in 1901 and the community of Whitney was established at that time. This quarter acre cemetery was established in the early 1900’s and has been abandoned since 1947 when the town of Whitney was abandoned with the closure of the Sumpter Valley Railroad in 1947. The cemetery is located about a half mile east of the site of Whitney on ridge overlooking the townsite. The cemetery contains about a dozen grave sites marked by fences, but only a couple have grave stones.
