"It has seen good and bad times in the more than 40 years since it was built, but as the architect celebrates his 100th birthday on Saturday, many residents say its glory days are returning.
"I like living here because it is a monumental feeling, it is beautiful. Every time I arrive downstairs, I look up and feel stunned by the wave, the height," said photographer Bruno Torturra Nogueira, 29, who rents a small studio on the 30th floor.
The Copan is among Niemeyer's most famous works along with Brazil's futuristic capital city Brasilia and a flying saucer-shaped museum in Niteroi, just across the bay from Rio de Janeiro."
