The original owner of the building in 1906 was James Porter & Company, a wholesale crockery, china and glass firm. Most of "Crockery" is still visible on the left side of the sign as a Ghost sign under a Ghost sign.
Although not as clear the bottom also reads "lamps silverware cutlery".
