Construction of the City Hall began in 1905. It was completed in 1906 but the architect had 'cut corners' on tower as money ran out resulting in a squat, plain tower that was completely closed in.
The tower so offended people that by 1908 the City Council insisted that the architect rebuild the tower and dome closer to the original plans, with the existing tower as the result.
