The bell was used in the early 1900 to notify on incoming trains to the immigration center. In the early 1900s, the station was used as an entery point for immigrants to Sao Paulo. After arriving in the port city of Santos, immigrants were put on trains and moved to Sao Paulo. At the station, they would deboard, and stay at the location until they were able to get a job and housing.
