A very recognisable landmark in London. Interestingly, the bridge is called "Tower Bridge" because it is near to the Tower of London (not because of its tower construction - as is sometimes thought).

Construction of
Tower Bridge began in April 1886 and it was opened on the 30th of June 1894.
Tower Bridge is a
bascule bridge, that is, a drawbridge with counterweights to balance the leaves of the bridge.
It consists of three spans. The opening central span is 200ft (61m) wide. The two outer spans, each 270 ft (82m) are of suspension bridge construction.
