Sappers is thought to be a military term originating from when the bridge linked the army camp to the main village. The bridge was completely rebuilt in the 1930s as the older, wooden bridge was washed away in storms. The footpath runs out of the village through a sheep field and up to the main road to Llanrwst. There are several gorgeous B&Bs situated on the hill overlooking the bridge, river and village with the spectacular Snowdonia National Park all around.

The peaceful spot where Sappers bridge resides is very pretty nestled at the base of the river valley. When crossing the bridge it swings in time to your footsteps.

Betws y Coed is the principal village of the Snowdonia National Park and provides a central hubbub of good quality shops and restaurants for tourists with the main A5, London to Holyhead, road running through it.

The bridge itself crosses the River Conwy and this river meets the three tributaries flowing from the west in Betws y Coed. The Llugwy, the Lledr and the Machno all become the River Conwy on its journey to the sea. The Swallow Falls are located on the Llugy tributary to the west and are one of the loveliest spots here.
