The church is the cathedral for the Sedes Episcopalis for the archdiocese of Sao Paulo and for all of Brazil. The construction started in the 1940s and was based of the Basilica of Saint Sofia in Constantinople. The cathedral's iconostasis are made of marble (when they're usually made of wood)
