Across Belgium there are still a lot of churchyard cemeteries. A specially in the small villages it’s still common that the cemetery is situated in the churchyard. Many of these churchyard cemeteries near the Roman-Catholic churches are still used today. Most of the churches were build from the 16th till the 18th century.
This church was build in 1711 – 1712. The village was split into two parts in 1843 by the new Netherlands – Belgium border. The church stands in Belgium and the few hundred inhabitants of the Dutch part of Overslag have to go ‘a cross the border’ to the church.
