History if no Link:
The Sheldon Homestead was bought by John Sheldon in 1708. It has been handed down from Sire to Son since then to the present owner. It is the longest holding of any estate in Franklin County Massachusetts. The current structure was erected in 1901. Although not part of the Sheldon ancestry at the time, the Sheldon House as it is now known played a significant part of the French and Indian raid in 1704. Old Deerfield has much history associated with it and the Sheldon Homestead is only one such place to visit if you're ever in Deerfield, MA. Main Street is lined with plaques and tablets marking very historic and significant events. The Sheldon House offers tours and a history lesson.
