From the US EPA webpage:

The Joliet Army Ammunition Plant Load-Assembly-Package (LAP) Area, located in Will County, Illinois, covers 22 square miles of an inactive Army munitions facility in Joliet, Illinois. The site, which is adjacent to the Manufacturing (MFG) Area [another National Priority List (NPL) site], is 10 miles south of Joliet, Illinois. From the early 1940s through 1977, high explosive artillery shells, bombs, mines, and small arms ammunition were loaded, assembled, and packaged on the site. Other activities included testing of ammunition, washout and renovation of shells, and burning and demolition of explosives.

The listed coordinates are for a trail head parking area for the new use, the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. Other new uses for this part of the old Joliet Arsenal include the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (Waymark WM1T9F) and the 2,200 acre CenterPoint Intermodal Facility (not open to the public).

Not all parts of Midewin are open to the public. Please stay on the marked trails and do not cross closed gates & fences. Some reasons for an area to be closed include, but not limited to, public safety, introduction of a new plant species, endangered species, grazing rights, and/or various hunting seasons.
