The Memorial Pet Cemetery is the oldest pet cemetery in the Twin Cities. It was established in the early 1920s as the Feist Pet Cemetery. In the late 1980s, the cemetery was donated to the St. Paul Humane Society. There are thousands of animals buried here including cats, dogs, parakeets, guinea pigs, a squirrel and possibly a horse. When one walked around, it is clear the VAST preponderance of animals are dogs and cats. In the past, I noticed a bird, and hedgehog site, but couldn't find them on my last visit.
When you visit, you will be laughing at some of the absurd grave markers, then an instant later, your eyes will be misting up at another grave marker.
It right next to the freeway, and thousands of people zoom by everyday without a clue that it exists.
